Science Teaching + Student Services Building Update

The following is an excerpt from the 3/6/2009 Capital Planning and
Project Management construction update regarding the new Science
Teaching and Student Services Building (ST+SS):

Excavation has started! Veit construction has installed close to 2/3 of
the earth retention system, and nearly one-fourth of the drilled piers
are set.

McGough construction will deliver and setup the tower crane next week,
and crane mobilization will take place between March 16th and April
3rd. Most of the work will be done during Spring Break so it should not
interfere with University schedules.

Green fact: McGough has projected that over 90% of the old Science Classroom Building will be recycled!

Another important update is the start of work to enlarge Northrop
chiller capacity as a part of the ST&SS project (anticipated to
start the week of March 9th in Northrop garage). Later this spring
traffic mitigation will take place and Pleasant St. will temporary
become a one-way. It will remain in that state through the end of
summer. Nearer to that time, a traffic mitigation plan will be posted
on CPPM's Web site, www.cppm.umn.edu.
